Chere Pepper Guitar Chere Pepper - Christian Female Vocalist - Songwriter Chere Pepper Vocalist

Born in Ypsilanti, Michigan, Cheré began singing very early in life.  When Cheré was just five years old, she joined the Girl Scouts of America, where she was first introduced to the guitar and given one lesson.  Cheré remembers taking the guitar book home and teaching herself the rest of the book.

By age eight, Cheré was singing and playing at local jamborees and winning local talent contests.

By age twelve, Cheré fronted a classic country-western band that included her older brother and a cousin.  They enjoyed local success performing at wedding receptions, lodges and community events.

Cheré continued with her music well into her high school years, but soon realized that something was missing.  The message of the music she’d been performing for so many years had left a void deep within her heart.  By her early twenties, she discovered a Christian music radio station and was surprised by its existence.  “That void in my heart was filled by the overpowering message of God’s love through Christian music,” proclaims Cheré, and from that point on she began to write Christian songs.

“There had to be a reason why He had given me this gift of song,” says Cheré, “I prayed for God’s guidance and the songs poured out.”

After sharing one of her songs with a church friend, she was invited to sing Special music on Sundays.  Soon she was singing with a contemporary Christian band, Higher Calling that was formed by her home church.  Later, Cheré enjoyed a couple of years singing with her older brother in a duo, Kindred Spirit.  This is where she enjoyed for the first time, performing and singing exclusively her own songs.  The passing of her mother, forced Cheré to take a break from performing and found herself in the desert.  “I spent a lot of time alone, writing and preparing for a solo career,” explains Cheré.  “God was calling me to step out on my own.”

Early in 1999, Cheré began recording for her first solo album entitled, I Am Changed.  A talented producer named JC Unger recorded the album at Sugar Lieu Studios of Belleville, Michigan.  Since emerging as a solo artist, Cheré has been averaging 50 to 80 concert and special music engagements per year.  The acoustic portion of her live performances include her young son on drums while Cheré plays 12 string.

“My music is personal yet, I hope, encouraging,” comments Cheré, who's singing style has been compared to Jewel or Steven Curtis Chapman with her edgy eclectic sound that reaches all age groups.

It’s not a watered down message.  Just Christian music at its best.
